As 2017 comes to an end, we’re asking for your continued support of the glass community by contributing to our Scholarships and Special Projects Fund. Your contributions allow us to:
Provide educational opportunities for San Francisco Area artists
Bring world-class guest artists to the Bay Area
Provide funding to non-profit glass organizations for educational programs
Our funding this year went to 2 students participating in Palo Alto High School’s Glass Program - one of the only high schools in the country, to have a glass blowing program. One student will continue his glass education at a collaborative program with RISD and Brown University. The other student will be continuing their glass education while attending school in Portland. GLANC also brought in 3 artists for our Maestro Program, including an international artist, to provide demonstrations and artist talks for our group.
21 of our members attended our annual trip to Toronto, Canada. They visited local artist studios for artist talks and demonstrations, toured fabulous collections, and visited Sandra Ainsley Gallery.
GLANC members participated in and supported a variety of events this year, including:
A tour of the incredible Dorothy Saxe Collection
Financial support for Cappy Thompson’s lecture at CCA
A visit to Latchezar Boyadjiev’s studio
Sponsored and organized the national Glass Currents Exhibition at Richmond Glass Center
Organized a panel in conjunction with the exhibition featuring: Dorothy Saxe, Steven Aldrich, Joe Morel, Randy Strong, with JoAnn Edwards as moderator
Glass demonstrations at Richmond Art Center in conjunction with the exhibition
A Member Appreciation Event at Tom and Kendra Kasten’s home, with a tour of their amazing collection
A glass blowing demonstration and artist talk by Claire Kelley from Rhode Island
An artist talk by Emily Nachison from Oregon
An artist talk by Rui Sasaki, who came all the way from Japan to speak to our group
Started the Jack Garfinkle Fund, to honor the memory of our valued member, Jack Garfinkle
Students, professional glass artists, and bay area glass non-profit organizations will benefit from your donation. Your generous contributions to our fund allow us to fulfill GLANC’s mission to further the development and appreciation of art made from glass. GLANC and the artists appreciate your consideration and generosity.
