What's Happening With Mary White?

She sends greetings from "the green isle of saints and scholars and artists." Mary has been working in Dublin on a Fulbright Scholar Grant since September 8, 2009. She will be there until June 2010.  Her nine-month Fulbright Scholar grant is a three-part collaboration with the Crafts Council of Ireland (CCI), the National College of Art and Design (NCAD) and the Fulbright Scholars Committee.

Mary is teaching a collaborative seminar to MA students at the Ceramics, Glass and Metals Area of the NCAD. She is collaborating with Caroline Madden, who teaches at NCAD and who is also a member of GAS. The seminar is called "the landscape of aesthetics and design." The class is designed to strengthen communicative skills of and to provide opportunities for young students in their critical thinking and writing. In April 2010, the class will be presenting a two-day symposium including Irish and international artists. An exhibition and catalogue of works by everyone in the group will be shown. Mary will be showing some of her new work.

Mary White Piece

Mary loves the weather in Dublin since it is similar to San Franciso's weather. She is living without a car. She says that she bikes, busses and walks everywhere and will return to the United States fit for tackling her next projects. In June she will be installing a public art

commission in Boulder, Colorado to honor her deceased father, who was a geographer.  The project is a flood-level marker designating the high-water level of historical floods along Boulder Creek. Also, in July 2010, Mary will be participating in a three-person show in Fremont, CA.

I asked Mary if she will continue making her trademark glass houses. Since she did not answer that question, I guess we will just have to attend her Fremont showing to discover what's new with Mary in 2010.
